Amenities, Activities & Attractions

This region offers endless possibilities for lovers of nature, the outdoors, gastronomy and wine.

La Bergerie is set among the French Pyrénées mountains. You can enjoy a range of outdoor activities on the door step, including hiking, biking (this is part of the annual Tour de France route – but both flat and mountainous terrains are available), boating or fishing on the glacial lake (summer), golfing, skiing (December – March), birdwatching, star gazing, and much more.

Day trips

The spiritual site of The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes (Cathedral), Pau Castle, the Jurançon AOC wine region are all within 30 minutes by car. We also highly recommend Hautacam, Pont d’Espagne, Cirque de Gavarnie, Cauterets, Barèges et La Mongie (Pic du Midi).

The Pyrénées national park is a large nature reserve site, and Pic du Midi de Bigorre is also part of the International Dark Sky Reserve area. The 3 glacial cirques of Gavarnie, Troumouse, Estaubé form the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Pyrénées-Mont Perdu.

Further afield

La Bergerie is an ideal base for exploring the south-west of France and beyond. For example, the famous wine regions of Bordeaux and even Rioja in Spain are just over 2 hours drive away!

Amenities

Closest towns are Poueyferré, Lourdes and Pontacq where you will find supermarkets, post office, other shops and services. The supermarket we like the most is E. Leclerc. There is also a good bakery for breads & cakes on the way: Le Moulin de Don Quichotte.

The closest tourist information office is in Lourdes:

Office de Tourisme de Lourdes (lourdes-infotourisme.com)
